W&M Debate Society

In addition to competing at tournaments across the nation, William & Mary hosts two college-level APDA tournaments and one high school tournament each year. The Debate team also directs a high school bootcamp for high school debaters each fall. Information on each of these tournaments is available here

William & Mary I is the fall APDA tournament hosted by the debate team. The 2016 tournament (Theme to be determined) will occur on the weekend of September 9th-10th. In last year's tournament, Shrubstitute Treecher-The Treequel, Daniel Takash (Johns Hopkins) and Emma Ashe (University of Chicago) triumphed in the final round!

William & Mary II is the spring APDA tournament hosted by the debate team. The 2017 tournament will occur on the weekend of April 14th-15th. In last year's tournament, W&M Presents Alexander Hamilton,  Nathan Raab and Anirudh Dasarathy (Princeton) triumphed in the final round! This tournament also featured the first video invite in the team's history. It can be viewed in all of its glory below.

High School Tournament

Each winter William & Mary hosts a tournament for high school Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, and Policy high school debaters. The date for this tournament will be announced shortly.

High School Bootcamp

Every fall the debate team hosts a bootcamp for high school public forum and Lincoln Douglas debaters. This is a great opportunity for new debaters to learn the format of different debate styles as well as for more experienced students to hone their skills and learn from the debaters at William & Mary, including several former VHSL state champions. The 2016 bootcamp's date is to be determined.
